Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Security Assistant for the Personnel Security (PERSEC) program, providing direct support to Security Specialists and serviced personnel.
  • Receives personnel security submissions related to background investigations, security clearances, and unfavorable information.
  • Conducts personnel security orientations for newly assigned Service Members and civilian personnel.
  • Inputs and updates personnel records in the Defense Information Security System (DISS) during in-processing and out-processing.
  • Monitors clearance eligibility and access for assigned personnel throughout the investigation and adjudication process.
  • Prepares routine personnel security correspondence for review by a higher-graded Security Specialist.
  • Tracks pending personnel security cases to support timely follow-up and case closure.
  • Coordinates clearance-related actions with supported units and external security organizations.
  • Maintains personnel security files and databases in accordance with established regulatory requirements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance based on a T5 investigation/Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • May require Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 5% of the time.
  • This position has been identified as a Mission Essential Position. For more information, see note below in Additional Information.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

Army DCIPS positions apply Veteran's Preference to preference eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C., in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, DCIPS Employment and Placement.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:

1. Experience assisting with processing personnel security requests for background investigations and security clearances in approved personnel security systems. AND
2. Experience reviewing personnel security case files for required forms and supporting documentation prior to higher-level review. AND
3. Experience maintaining suspense controls for pending personnel security actions.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-06).

OR

Education: Successfully completed at least one year of graduate level education in a field which is directly related to the position being filled and demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position; such as, Security Program Administration; Homeland Security; Industrial Security Administration, etc. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (18 semester hours) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application).
