About the Position: This Biomedical Equipment Technician position is located in the Materiel Management Department, Biomedical Engineering Division of the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Portsmouth, Portsmouth (NMRTC Portsmouth), VA. The purpose of this position is to evaluate, develop, maintain, and repair biomedical equipment used at NMCP in the treatment of patients, diagnosis of pathological conditions, and in biomedical research.

Duties

Help
  • Incumbent serves as the Biomedical engineering/equipment technician (BMET), providing guidance, direction, and coordination to a group clinical and support staff professional.
  • Plans and implements biomedical equipment and logistical policies and guidelines.
  • Monitors progress toward implementation of logistics plans, determines the impact, and takes action as required.
  • Reviews all issues and matters affecting the logistics mission of the MTF to ensure compliance with higher authority and regional policy.
  • Serves as the professional consultant and advisor on BIOMED matters to the Project Managers, Equipment Managers, Facilities Managers, Material Managers and Risk Managers.
  • Collaborates and assists other NMRTC Portsmouth directorates and departments in reviewing venture capital initiatives and Military Health System projects.
  • Completes assigned preventative maintenance and other scheduled services.
  • Assists in the development of other preventative maintenance procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Troubleshoots and repairs medical equipment, medical equipment systems, and devices

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Work requires frequent overnight travel away from the normal duty station. Travel may be as much as 50 - 75%. Trips may range from same day visits to local destinations to more distant locations for up to a week.
  • A secret clearance is required.
  • Must be able to lift safely 60 pounds.

I have one year of specialized experience which includes planning and implementing biomedical equipment and logistical policies and guidelines; troubleshooting and repairing medical equipment systems and devices; participating in executive planning sessions which involve implementation and execution of programs and special projects; providing in service training, presentation, and orientation on new equipment.



You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:


Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education
