This position serves as an Inventory Management Specialist in the Division of the Supply Management Service in the VA Health Care System responsible for the inventory and management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment in the assigned area(s).
This position serves as an Inventory Manager in the Supply Management Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area, with responsibility for the inventory management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment(DME) in the assigned area(s).
This position is a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-9. At the GS-7 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-9. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Inventory Management and Control:
Responsible for the management and control of an assigned class of expendable material;
Serves as the point of contact for the coordination of material support and resolution of logistic problems;
Conducts forecasting and quantitative analysis;
Conducts spot checks; and complies with special requirements for firearms, ammunition and sensitive equipment
Returns, Recalls, and Reutilization:
Implements federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies;
Coordinates disposal of surplus or excess supplies;
Makes emergent procurement decisions; and participates in root cause analysis process
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5.

Specialized Experience: Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Managing a variety of expendable items and durable medical equipment; forecasting short and long range inventory needs;
Analyzing inventory management reports and the effectiveness of various options proposed to provide supply support;
Utilizing automated inventory management systems to maintain current inventory data;
Researching and analyzing information to resolve questions and issues, and implementing programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies.

Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): At the baccalaureate level in the coursework detailed above is fully qualifying. A grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study.
A grade point average of "B+" (a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study.
