Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Researches multiple sources to select from a variety of visual graphics to incorporate into various media to communicate information to selective audiences, including staff, patients, and scientific manuscripts.
  • Plans, organizes, and executes visual information production projects.
  • Advises and makes final decision on the most appropriate format and medium based on final product needed, deadlines, requestor's use, available time and resources.
  • Designs and produces computer-generated graphics, photographically enhanced media, printed material, logos, and artwork for manuals, posters, pamphlets, handbooks, and types of publications for medical/research/administrative lectures, presentations, satellite and videoconferences.
  • Creates complex graphics using desktop publishing software, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Chooses cameras, audio equipment and accessories to ensure accurate treatment of patients/subject while photographing subjects for clinical studies and diagnosis documentation, including pre-, intra- and post-surgical cases.
  • Uses both still photography and videography; plans and organizes equipment requirements, visual effects, and audio including music and narration.
  • Uses various sound boards, signal processors, and computers to manipulate audio for audiovisual productions.
  • In addition to capturing original stills, video, and audio, edits raw video footage and audio with nonlinear editing systems using complex software.
  • Maintains and reports on the upkeep are large image files, equipment, space, and tools utilized such as computer operating systems, computer peripherals, cameras, microphones, specialized printers, and work areas.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal service. Qualifying experience is in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Specialized experience includes applying skill using a variety of visual art methods, techniques and materials used in the production, design and reproduction of visual products and experience with specialized digital photographic and multimedia equipment, computer operating systems and digital manipulation processes. EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed aPh.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Education must include a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. OR

COMBINATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):Equivalent combinations of successfully completed Graduate-level education in excess of 2 years, combined with specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. Both experience and education must be related to the position, as described above.

The quality ranking factor for this position is: Subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment related to audiovisual and photographic products.

Applicants with higher proficiency levels may rank above those with lower proficiency levels on a quality ranking factor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work involves walking, bending, climbing, stooping, and some standing and sitting for extended periods of time; on location or at a computer terminal. The work requires manual dexterity, hand/eye coordination, and the ability to accurately perceive and sense color lines. On occasion, lifting and transportation of moderately heavy equipment (40 pounds) is required. Employee may drive a vehicle to transport materials to off-station programs.
