Education & Learning Resources Service is seeking to fill a full-time Deputy Associate Chief of Staff/Deputy Designated Education Officer (DDEO) position for VA North Texas Health Care System. The DDEO works directly under the DEO who is the single designated VA employee with oversight responsibility for all health professions training at this VA medical facility. The DDEO assists the DEO with these responsibilities and may serve as the DEO during absences.

Help

The DDEO is responsible for assisting with tasks related to establishing, maintaining, and evaluating the quality of HPT programs and care delivered by HPTs at the VA medical facility. DDEO provides assistance with oversight of the HPE service and education support for a full spectrum of paid and without compensation (WOC) HPTs and others associated with a complex healthcare system.

DDEO provides a wide range of program management and administrative duties supporting the HPE programs. HPT academic levels may include undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students, externs, interns, residents, fellows, and VA advanced fellows; and pre- and post-doctoral fellows. Supported educational programs may include medical and dental, associated health, nursing, advanced fellows and limited non-clinical programs.

The DDEO is a supervisory physician with leadership experience involving clinical, educational, and administrative responsibilities in medical care and education. Experience and familiarity with accreditation standards, financing, policy, and evaluation are preferred. The DDEO must possess skills in 1) administering and managing training programs, 2) effectively communicating with diverse audiences in both written and oral form, and 3) displaying characteristics such as self-direction, project organization, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Administrative Duties (up to 100%) include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with oversight functions related to funding, accreditation, appointment process, and affiliate relationships
  • Interacting with affiliated institutions on matters pertaining to trainee assignments, curricula and training site evaluations
  • Acting as a consultant to other VA medical facility staff on educational matters
  • Acting as the liaison with the sponsoring institution's Designated Institution Officer (DIO) and other education leaders in academic and research programs
  • Advocating for sufficient VA resources (funding)
  • Exercising oversight and administration of clinical training programs
  • Assisting with local procedures for keeping and disbursement, including training, reconciling invoices, submitting rate schedules and reimbursing affiliates
  • Working closely with the DEO and OAA
  • Assisting with management of special situations and issues pertaining to HPTs
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds and over; moderate carrying 15-44 pounds straight pulling (1 hour); pushing (1 hour); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (3 hours); standing (3 hours); kneeling (1 hour); repeated bending (1 hour); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; and hearing (aid permitted). Qualifications

Podiatrist Basic Requirements

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
  • Residency Training: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
  • License: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
Additional Requirement: This VA podiatrist position is involved in academic training programs. As such, Applicants must be Board Certified by a Council on Podiatric Medical Education certification board, or other equivalent certification to grant privileges for faculty status.

Preferred Experience:
