This position is located in Linen Distribution and Repair, Environmental Management Service. Incumbent performs a wide variety of duties including, but not limited to, operation of motor vehicles, pick-up/delivery of clean and soiled linens, and restocking linen carts.

This is a temporary detail not to exceed 1 year. The detail could potentially end earlier than 1 year.

Duties

Help

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Drives vehicle for the pick-up and delivery of laundry items to and from designated areas on station.
  • Places bags of soiled linen into linen push carts from soiled linen storage areas for transport to Linen Distribution.
  • Ensures the delivery truck is cleared of any noticeable debris prior to loading with clean linen.
  • Operates vehicles in a safe and efficient manner by observing speed limits, following traffic signs, turning engine off when not in use, etc.
  • Ensures there is a spotter present to assure the safety of patients, staff and visitors during specific truck operations.
  • Performs preventive maintenance checks and services to laundry truck daily, including checking all fluids, tire pressure and inspecting for damages.
  • Inputs and manages data regarding labor hours, repair expenditures and other work order information.
  • Codes work requests, reviews completed work orders for proper information and enters appropriate information regarding labor hours and material costs associated with the completion of work orders for service.
  • Extracts work order data, provides continual updates and follows up with requestors on status of work. Provides emergency call coverage.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. including some holidays

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Heavy physical effort is required in daily handling of carts loaded with items weighing from 300 to 450 pounds or more. These carts are loaded from a dock into the truck for delivery. At the delivery point they are pushed or pulled onto a power lift tailgate, lowered to the ground then pushed or pulled into buildings. The same physical effort is required to move items weighing 425 pounds or more from the building to the truck. Incumbent must be able to maneuver push carts in and out of small areas, such as linen rooms. Must be able to stoop, bend, push and lift. Must be able to load bags of soiled linen weighing 125 pounds into push carts.

Working Conditions: The Motor Vehicle Operator is required to work outside and inside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicles. Transportation of soiled linen and wet linen makes tasks offensive at times.

Driver's License Requirement: Must posses a valid Driver's License with passenger endorsement to operate a motor vehicle. (Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. You will be required to show your valid driver's license at the time of your interview.)"
