Help

Duties, including but not limited to,:

  • The position duties include consultation, administration support, training support, accountability, and oversight for the Health Administration Service (HAS) activities across the full jurisdiction of the Medical Center's HAS Program. Work is assigned in terms of Jesse Brown VAMC objectives, priorities, and deadlines.
  • The incumbent works independently in resolving conflicts meeting the needs of the facility. The incumbent's completed work is evaluated for conformance to policy, guidelines, directives, and regulations related to training and development.
  • Receives and screens most callers and visitors to the Office of the Chief, who include Veterans and/or their family members, Veteran Service Officers (VSO), officials of other federal, state, and local agencies, Medical Center staff, and the public.
  • Incumbent is responsible for Medical Center publication and directive tracking.
  • Briefs the Chief on appointments made daily and again one day prior to event, as necessary, ensuring the Chief has all pertinent information and back-up material required.
  • Prepares various memorandums for Chief, Assistant Chief, and section chiefs.
  • Assists the Chief, Assistant Chief, and subordinate personnel in the procedural aspects of expediting workflow, advising personnel on requirements for preparation and submission of data, action documents, and other correspondence.
  • Reads directives and instructional material pertaining to administrative practices and clerical procedures in order to be aware of new, revised, or amended procedures for such matters as preparation and processing of correspondence, reports, Congressional correspondence, electronic filing, and preparation of travel requests.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/19/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Management Assistant at the GS-7 level. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in Federal service. Specialized experience related to this position includes communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously related to internal and external customers; Skill in computer software, Microsoft Office Suite, and the use of Vista Operating System and its various functions; Knowledge of the functions and organizations of the service, Title 38, and the various VA medical programs, regulations, manuals, circulars, and bulletins; Manages information security within areas of responsibility to assure that computer system security and confidentiality of sensitive information is maintained, and that incumbent access to sensitive information is limited only to that which the incumbent requires to perform their duties; Performs under the supervision of the Chief, PAS and Supervisory Program Specialist.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work requires no special physical demands. It may involve some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.

Work Environment: The work is performed in an office or similar setting requiring normal safety precautions against everyday risks or discomforts.
