Summary

The mission of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) is to provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel from our Nation's past conflicts to their families and our Nation. DPAA personnel research, investigate, recover, and identify remains of DoW personnel unaccounted for from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Iraq conflicts and Persian Gulf War. The DPAA Director, (SES-III) reports to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy (USD(P)).

Duties

Help

Those selected for the Honolulu, HI duty location are eligible for COLA.

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Conceptualizes, creates and coordinates detailed sub-regional strategies and operations plans consistent with the National Security Strategy, the DPAA Campaign Plan, and synchronizes sub-regional program input to the IP Directorate.
  • Ensures all initiatives are integrated and develops related budgetary and personnel planning factors to enable Plans, Operations, and Research Division's strategic programing.
  • Routinely interacts with the IP Director and other leaders on assessment requirements and continuously monitors and evaluates data collection results to determine if Directorate objectives and goals are being met while keeping senior leaders informed of task attainment status.
  • Develops and tracks assessment metrics related to the Regional Action Plan, synchronizing OSW and Agency-level policy guidance while emphasizing efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: (1) Performance measurement techniques involving both quantitative and qualitative methods, (2) The principles and theories of strategic planning, program assessment, project management and process aligned organization models, and (3) Providing recommendations to senior leadership within the Agency on the planning, development, and implementation of regional operations and activities related to the Agency's Campaign and Operations plan.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission.. Members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if they are on terminal leave.
