The primary purpose of this MACHINEST LEADER WL-3414-11 position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full-time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Duties

Help

  • Lead a team of three or more machinists and on a regular and recurring basis assists team members by instructing, demonstrating or providing instructions or training to team members as it relates to skill, knowledge and technical aspects of the shop.
  • Perform journeyman level machinist operations on various aerospace components and other machining projects.
  • Assist team members by instructing, demonstrating or providing instructions or training to accomplish the set up and operation of various aerospace components or machining projects on various conventional and CNC machines such as but not limited to vertical mills, horizontal mills, lathes, turret lathes, cylindrical grinders and internal grinders.
  • Assist team members by instructing, demonstrating or providing instructions or training in the proper use and application of various precision measuring equipment such as but not limited to micrometers, test indicators, travel indicators, bore gages, gage blocks and ring gages.
  • Ensure team members understand and follow safety, environmental, housekeeping and other established policies, procedures and practices related to the shop.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside, exposed to hazards of moving equipment and machines, shop noise requiring hearing protection, eye hazards such as flying metal chips requiring safety glasses, handling heavy objects requiring use of safety shoes. Handling of objects that may have rough, abrasive, oily, sharp, hot or cold surfaces. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment required.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III ICBM, and performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10, and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City. The area is known for year-round activities, including skiing, hiking, boating, extreme sports, fishing and hunting, with four distinct seasons, low humidity and moderate snow fall in the valley.
