About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer at Carlisle Barracks assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations.

Duties

Help
  • Conduct crime awareness and prevention programs to advise the community.
  • Independently formulate long-range operational plans for mission accomplishment.
  • Responsible for the coordination of all law enforcement budget planning.
  • Recommend methods and procedures affecting overall Law enforcement operations.
  • Articulate to subordinates the link between performance expectations and the organization mission and goals.
  • Conduct interviews with candidates for vacant positions.
  • Ensure that the work assignments of subordinate employees are carried out.
  • Identify training needs of employees for developmental growth.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on filling vacancies.
  • Perform police officer duties to include operating a motor vehicle, arrest, searches, detain suspects.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
  • "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work on an intermittent or unscheduled, on-call basis.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG).
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • The wearing of uniforms is required and you may be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shield, and body armor.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.---Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 60 days of hire date and annually thereafter.---Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect. only new convictions will trigger the requirement.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Planning, directing, and reviewing the activities of police officers; assigning work to subordinate police officers; observing and evaluating the work performance of police officers; Participating in investigations; utilizing basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and/or techniques involved for maintaining order and protecting life and property.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09.)

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
