As a Personnel Security Specialist, GS-0080-13, you will initiate background investigations for public trust/national security positions for employees/contractors and you will make adjudication recommendations on cases with varying degrees of complexity and provide guidance to junior adjudicators/lead personnel.

Help
  • Perform adjudicative functions such as determinations concerning Public Trst suitability, fitness, credentialing and granting personnel security eligibilty for position investigated at tiers 1, 2 and 4 of the Federal Investigative Standards.
  • Provide recommendations on adjudicative functions and provide personnel security training to components and junior adjudicators to ensure proper guidance and resolution.
  • Review fingerprint results of employees and contractors to determine suitability and/or contractor fitness.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate investigative reports performed by the Office of Personnel Management, Federal Bureau of Investigations and Defense Security Services to determine if the appropriate investigation has been performed.
  • Conduct personal interviews independantly whose investigative reports reflect derogatory information or to ascertain additional information to clarify discrepancies.

  • This is a Testing Designation Position. You must submit to and successfully pass an urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment. You will also be subject to unannounced random drug testing for the duration of your time in this position.

In order to qualify for the GS-13 position, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:
1. Adjudicating and processing investigations on Federal employees and contractors in accordance with E.O 12968 and 5 CFR 731; and
2. Providing guidance on fitness and suitability of Public Trust investigations and National Security clearances; and
3. Reviewing recommendations from Federal Employee and Contract Adjudicators and make final determinations as needed.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
