Duties

Help
  • Troubleshoot and repair hospital power distribution systems up to 460V across varied phases and frequencies, working on transfer switches, switchgear, panels, breakers, receptacles, and hardwired equipment.
  • Install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Cut, bend, and install raceways, wire mold, and conduits.
  • Assemble and install distribution, monitoring, and power panels.
  • Splice and connect wire to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, and power sources.
  • Determine the size, type of wiring, conduit, fittings, relays, controls, and distribution panels.
  • Complete installation, modification, and repairs according to the National Electrical Code and National Fire Code.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position is designated as mission essential. The incumbent will be required to ensure continuity of Tripler Army Medical Center's operations during ALL hazard's emergency situations.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position may require the incumbent to be on call based on the needs of the organization.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • The Medical Treatment Facility operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year - shift hours are 0600-1400, 1400-2200, and 2200-0600.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience perform electrical maintenance and repair tasks in industrial or commercial buildings such as maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing existing electrical lines, circuits and fixtures; as well as bending electrical conduit.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Efforts: Work involves working at ground level and from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where parts of systems worked are in hard to reach places. Employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed both in and out of doors where there is regular exposure to dirt, dust, grease, noise, and bad weather. There is also exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, broken bones, electrical shock, and burns. Shift work is required. Emergency request to report to work may be received at any hour of the day or night.
