Summary

Monitor patient's changing conditions throughout the course of hospitalization.
Review patient's care plan for progress toward the achievement of discharge objectives.
Provide instructions to patient and family for preoperative and post-operative procedures on cesarean section.
Conduct routine nursing care tasks such as cleaning instruments, arranging supply cupboards and stocking supplies on a daily basis.
Enter patient data into automated healthcare systems.
Assess and take actions to alleviate problems reflected in subtle changes in the patient's condition such as contraction quality, fetal heart monitoring/qualities, dizziness or excessive bleeding.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the employee to maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse as a condition of employment.
Work schedules may include Rotating Shifts, Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays, and other varying work schedules that may be unscheduled, intermittent, or on an on-call basis as required to meet the unit's mission.
This position has been designated as essential during inclement weather conditions or other appropriate emergency conditions.
Uniforms will be required.
Required to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. This position requires a Pre-Appointment Physical.
This position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician. Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement. If selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal flu vaccinations.
This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Basic Life Saver certification.

Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse:
Licensure: A current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia; OR must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as monitoring patient condition with in an impatient setting; providing patients with instructions before, during, and after patient's stay; performing diagnostic tasks including obtaining vitals, specimen, and laboratory results upon physician's request; entering patient data into electronic medical records system. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
