Duties

Help
  • Monitors status and work progress, making daily adjustments of established priorities as necessary.
  • Performs undercover surveillance assignments.
  • Checks crime scene for fingerprints and other evidence.
  • Coordinates with legal authorities, both on and off the facility.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General, IAW AR 190-56.
  • Successfully graduated from a DoD, Federal, National, or State approved Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation Course or complete within one year of hire date.
  • Pass requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations, or statutes. These include: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR, and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: pre-employment and recurring medical/psychiatric evaluation. Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days. Comply with the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) occasionally.
  • The incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Hours of work are subject to irregular and rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Designated Mission Essential Position
  • Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies.
  • This position requires a drug test.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Analyzing facts to identify case information; 2) Interviewing people to gather information for cases; 3) Coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to gather evidence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted
