As a AIRCRAFT WORKER, WG-8852-8, you will work alongside higher-grade mechanics in accomplishing maintenance and repair of multiple types of aircraft: fixed and rotary wing, manned and unmanned. The organizational location of this position is: AVCRAD.

The AVCRAD is an industrial facility that provides sustainment base maintenance in support of regional Army National Guard (ARNG) Aviation assets and supports field maintenance in accordance with ARNG Aviation priorities. The AVCRAD maintenance activities ensure aircraft of the region are ready and available to support Federal and State missions. In addition, the AVCRAD performs National Maintenance Program (NMP) repair of rotary wing aircraft and components, limited depot airframe repair, aircraft painting, major airframe repair, depot-level component repair, and component repair and management, as directed by Army Materiel Command (AMC), and prioritized by the National Guard Bureau (NGB).Work is performed under on-the-job training conditions with immediate and continuous supervision, and detailed explanation of assignments, procedures, and techniques being given routinely. Receives guidance and instructions in the fundamentals of the field and training in the use of tools and materials. Work is checked frequently during progress and upon completion and advice given on how to correct or improve work methods. Supervisor or higher-grade workers are readily available to resolve problems or answer questions arising during the performance of assigned tasks. When performing routine and repetitive tasks receives general instructions with assignments and advice concerning anticipated difficulties, with intermittent inspection for compliance with instructions and acceptability of work.

As an Aircraft mechanic employee performs the wide range of maintenance and identify deficiencies (on-site and in the shop) on aircraft systems, subsystems, and their components, e.g., airframe, communication, avionics, instrument, utility, engines, flight controls, main and tail rotor blades, hydraulic, oil heat and fuselage, etc. Also performs maintenance tasks, coarse and fine alignments and adjustments on engine fuel controls and flight controls to accomplish comprehensive and precise rigging. Accomplishes complex and comprehensive dimension of aircraft and major assemblies' maintenance, e.g., disassembly, and assembly. Performs removal, trouble shooting, analysis, repairs, rebuild, modification, installation, replacement, adjustments, alignments, rigging, torques, disassembly, functional operations and checks on major assemblies, subassemblies, and their components. Performs repairs of main & tail rotors, gear boxes, engines, drive shafts, landing gears, fuel cells, hoses, tubing, fuselage, transmission, etc.

Functionally checks and troubleshoots systems, subsystems, and/or components to detect malfunctions within a particular assembly, and/or Line Reparable Unit (LRU) or Weapon Reparable Unit (WRU) component to insure they are operating within prescribed limits and tolerances using external power sources, powered ground equipment, or functional tests. Independently performs the above on aircraft singular and integrated systems to diagnose and isolate systems, subsystem, or component malfunctions, using standard and special test equipment. Uses a variety of conglomerate and sensorial airborne diagnostic and precision measuring equipment. Diagnoses failures, malfunctions, leaks, improper operating, etc. Performs repairs, replacement, and modifications to isolate and correct all discrepancies or malfunctions on assembly, ground operations and flight operations. Insures serial numbers of aircraft components match and meet serviceability and technical requirements for the program the aircraft is being processed. Updates aircraft and component maintenance forms in accordance with technical references. Assist other trades on aircraft to isolate and correct malfunctions in systems, subsystems, components, etc.

Conducts on-the-job training on assigned systems and related support equipment and tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary. Processes and accounts for due-in supply assets. Ensures that material and equipment are properly stored, protected and maintained and that funds are not obligated for material or parts without proper justification. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations. May be required to serve on maintenance assistance teams throughout supported region.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES:

1. May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate, to perform temporary duty assignments.

2. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.

3. Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.

4. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

5. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

6. Wear of the military uniform is MANDATORY.

Qualifications

This is an indefinite position, tenure 3, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Any permanent military technician who is selected for this position will become tenure 3. The selectee will receive the same benefits and entitlements as the tenure 1 employee but will be considered tenure 3 for purposes of reduction in force. You can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice. If a permanent resource becomes available, incumbent may be converted to a permanent appointment without competition.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED
: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

MILITARY MEMBERS WITH BONUSES: Upon acceptance of a military technician position military members who are currently receiving a military Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker may lose incentive eligibility and may be subject to termination or suspension of incentive (includes indefinite and temporary technicians on assignment for more than 180 days in any continuous 12-month period).

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 12 months of experience using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.
