Duties

Help
  • Serves as the Director of Emergency Services at a medium multi-mission military installation and is the primary responsible manager for law enforcement and fire protection/prevention.
  • Performs s a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations with full authority to make decisions and commit to a course of action.
  • Exercises exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction at the garrison with responsibility for investigating, apprehending and detaining persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States, the Department of Defense.
  • Represents the garrison for law enforcement and fire protection/prevention law enforcement matters to the surrounding civilian communities to include the local, county and state police and fire departments; as well as civic interest groups.
  • Develops performance plans, evaluates work performance and counsels staff as appropriate for the organization.
  • Consults with subordinates on training needs, develops and administers an overall training plan for the Emergency Services Directorate.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: participating in managing emergency services for an organization concerning law enforcement, fire protection and/or physical security programs ;preparing a variety emergency services documents such as operating/work schedules, policies, procedures, and reports for a major installation or equivalent; assisting in coordinating emergency services activities with internal and external agencies and providing guidance and advice to organizational leadership on emergency services regulatory requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
