Duties

Help

As a Classification Specialist at the GS-0201-13, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Classification and Position Management:
    • Analyze and evaluate complex classification issues, ensuring compliance with Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards.
    • Develop, review, and certify position descriptions across various occupational series and grade levels up to GS-15.
    • Conduct desk audits and recommend authoritative solutions to improve position management.
  • Organizational Design and Consultation:
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to implement organizational realignments and workforce planning initiatives.
    • Provide expert guidance on position management, organizational restructuring, and the development of mission-critical structures.
    • Interpret and apply Federal HR regulations, offering innovative solutions to address classification and position management challenges.
  • Advisory and Strategic Planning:
    • Advise managers on classification appeals, regulatory compliance, and effective workforce strategies.
    • Conduct special studies to evaluate the effectiveness of HR programs and recommend strategic improvements.
    • Maintain and update organizational charts and mission/functional statements to reflect operational needs.

  • Mandatory Overtime: In order to respond quickly and efficiently to disaster survivors, substantial compensated overtime hours may be required during heightened disaster activities.

Qualifications

Experience: To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. Average work hours must be stated on the resume to quantify each period of work experience or that experience will not be credited toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. You must address the specific specialized experience required for each grade level of this position on your resume or application or you will be rated "Ineligible" for that grade level.

GS-13: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Experience must include:

  • Utilizing expertise of federal position management, classification principles, concepts, practices, and techniques to provide classification and position management advice and consultative services to customers.
  • Interpreting and applying federal classification standards to determine appropriate pay plan, occupational series, title, grade level and Fair Labor Standards Act coverage for supervisory and non-supervisory positions in the general schedule and federal wage system.
  • Conducting desk audits and preparing reports on findings.
  • Leading organizational design projects, including realignments and workforce planning.
  • Analyzing and resolving complex classification and position management related issues and preparing detailed evaluation reports.
