Duties

Help

  • Maintains and assembles/disassembles conventional munitions: Assembles general purpose bombs in a multitude of configurations. Certify munitions residue: Performs inspection of expended munitions to certify as munitions residue free.
  • Assembles and processes countermeasure munitions: Assembles RR-188/RR-170 chaff and M206/MJU-7 flare countermeasure munitions and loads in dispensing magazines.
  • Loads, unloads, processes, and inspects 20-millimeter ammunition: Inspects and loads 20mm ammunition using an Ammunition Loading System Replenisher table into Ammunition Loading Systems (ALS/UALS/LALS).
  • Assembles, Disassembles, Inspects, and Repairs 2.75-inch aircraft rockets: Assembles 2.75-inch rockets with White Phosphorus or Infrared warheads.
  • Performs pre-use, post-use, and general inspections on all assigned Tow Vehicles, munitions handling equipment, trailers, and various models of ammunition loading systems.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an ORDNANCE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1.Knowledge of conventional munitions maintenance and storage procedures.
2.Knowledge of environmental practices and procedures.
3.Knowledge of guided and non-guided munitions systems and equipment.
4.Knowledge in the safe operation of various light and heavy machinery, vehicles, and MMHE support equipment.
5.Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials accounting and security.
6 Knowledge of how a variety of munitions components and accessories are assembled, disassembled, and operated.
7.Knowledge of munitions accountability, security and resource protection, and safety requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders.
8 Knowledge of the EPA Military Munitions Rule and munitions residue certification requirements.
9.Knowledge of the characteristics of electrical and mechanical fuses and tail kit (fin) types.

Hours of standing are 7 hour/day. Hours of kneeling are 4 hours/week. Hours of repeated bending are 8 hours/week. Operation of truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Outside and inside. Severe heat. Excessive cold. Excessive dampness or chilling. Dry atmospheric conditions. Excessive noise, intermittent. Dust/Dirt. Grease and oils. The employee is subject to exposure to high explosives, high/low-pressure pneumatic systems, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts and strains. Electrical energy. Slippery or uneven walking surface. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Safety equipment includes safety shoes, glasses and gloves. Working closely with others. Working alone.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
