Duties

Help
  • You will fight structural fires actively and effectively based on up-to-date knowledge of layouts, potential hazards, and fixed fire protection systems.
  • You will perform duties at airfields handling aircraft (e.g., fighters, bombers, cargo, passenger) carrying large volumes of fuel, conventional and sometimes nuclear weapons, or highly flammable or explosive cargo.
  • You will provide tactical or strategic level guidance for response personnel at hazardous materials incidents in confinement, control, and containment of various classes of hazardous materials.
  • You will perform emergency protocols and procedures by providing basic life support (BLS) established by the system medical director.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The employee is required to work a rotating work schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays, and is subject to mandatory overtime and recall.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • The employee is required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

Qualifications

GS-06: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade;
2) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards;
3) Controlling hazardous materials incidents;
4) Performing basic and routine medical procedures, and;
5) Performing rescue operations.
NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position.

*This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-6: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Operations. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.

GS-07: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade;
2) Performing rescue operations;
3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards;
4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents;
5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and
6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures.

*This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-7: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Technician, Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator Pumper, and Driver Operator ARFF, NREMT.
