Summary

The FBI Honors Internship Program is a full-time, 10-week paid summer internship that will occur from Tuesday, June 1, 2027, to Friday, August 6, 2027. This program is for undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral college students and offers exposure to the world's premiere law enforcement and intelligence agency while also serving as a pipeline for entry-level positions after graduation.

Duties

Help

Interns work on a variety of projects, including (but not limited to): analyzing crime data, developing portals to facilitate the exchange of information between law enforcement agencies and the FBI, supporting operations, and aiding with divisions audits to ensure compliance with FBI regulation.

Conditions of employment

You must be a student, attending an accredited college or university on a full-time basis within the United States as an undergraduate, graduate, or post-doctoral student. You are not eligible to participate in the program if you will graduate before the program start date June 1, 2027, unless you are continuing your education in the semester following your graduation.

  1. You must be at minimum 18-years old to apply.
  2. You must meet ALL eligibility requirements posted on our Employment Eligibility page.
  3. You must be able to successfully complete a Top-Secret security clearance background investigation which includes a drug test, fingerprinting, polygraph, and be in the continental United States, Hawaii, or San Juan for some parts of your background investigation.
  4. You must currently have and maintain through the duration of the internship, a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. If you are a first-semester freshman, you must have maintained a 3.0 high school GPA.
  5. You must be a full-time student articulating towards a degree at an accredited U.S. college or university throughout the application process cycle.

Additional information

In the application, you can select up to three (3) preferred locations for your summer assignment at the following: field offices, divisions (Washington, D.C.), or one of the HQ satellite divisions (outside of Washington, D.C.). Interns with a favorable evaluation can continue the internship working 16-hours per month in the fall/spring.

Pay Information

GS 4: $14.76 (hourly)
GS 5: $16.51 (hourly)

NOTE: The salaries listed above are the base rate of pay for federal employees on the General Schedule (GS) pay sale. A complete list of pay tables factoring in locality pay (based on geographical area) can be found on OPM.gov.

Relocation and housing costs are not provided.
You are responsible for making your own housing arrangements. The FBI will not intervene in any contractual arrangements negotiated between you and a housing provider. The FBI strongly recommends that you wait to sign any formal agreement with a housing provider until you have received a Final Offer Letter upon your successful completion of the FBI background investigation process. The FBI is not responsible for any housing or travel expenses incurred by you, nor can we guarantee an internship start date until your background investigation is complete and you have been cleared for hire.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

We offer opportunities in a variety of locations, to include our headquarters in Washington, D.C., our regional field offices across the United States, and our satellite campuses in Huntsville, AL; Quantico, VA; and Pocatello, ID.

Interns that choose a regional field office could be placed at a resident agency once selected. You may select up to three location preferences; your assignment will be dependent on the FBI's needs at the time of your internship and your qualifications.
