Duties

Help
  • Install items fabricated in the shop.
  • Apply various kinds of coating materials, solvents, and pre-coating agents.
  • Operate push-type, gasoline powered road-striping equipment.
  • Measure material according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions.
  • Use tapes, rules, and squares accurately, and to use such shop tools as hammers, handsaws, planes, screwdrivers, power saws, etc.
  • Paint interior and exterior of buildings.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Performs duties which involve hazardous waste material. Must complete introductory course in hazardous waste management within six months of being assigned to this position and attend annual hazardous waste management refresher course.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Painter ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common duties including any and all types of painting work on interiors and exteriors of buildings, furniture, equipment and machinery, using brush, spray and rollers. I can prepare surfaces to be coated by methods such as sanding and wire brushing and assure protection of surrounding areas. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Works from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard to reach places which requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally may handle objects that weigh 40 pounds and over.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works inside and outside. Dirt, spray, and fumes are usually present. Is occasionally exposed to bad weather. Occasionally required to wear heavy and uncomfortable protective clothing. Is exposed to cuts and bruises and occasionally to the possibility of broken bones.
