Duties

Help

The Threat Interdiction Group Emergency Response (TIGER) Team is located within the Special Operations Division, Operational Services Bureau.

All members of TIGER should be highly trained and able to provide plainclothes police response to both high-risk/low frequency events as well as low-risk- /high frequency events. Plainclothes TIGER units provide an unobtrusive presence while interacting with the community and completing their objectives, such as: subject observation and interdiction; crisis intervention and negotiation; immediate threat detection and mitigation; and fostering trust and cooperation within the local community.

Note: Multiple vacancies exist. The number of positions will be determined by the needs of the Department. The selection list will be active for a period of one (1) year from the date of approval of the selection memorandum unless an applicant withdraws in writing their application.

Must be a current USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant and attain the rank of Private with Training by the closing date of this announcement. Must possess and maintain a valid Real ID U.S. driver's license. Must successfully complete all required training. Employees should expect to work additional duty as required to meet the needs of the section.

Qualifications

1. Must be a USCP Officer below the rank of Sergeant and attain the rank of Private with Training by the closing date of this announcement.

2. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the date of selection.

3. Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status to attend, participate, and successfully complete all required training courses related to this position as of the date of selection.

4. Must be available to work flexible hours, rotating shifts, and possible midnight assignments.

5. Must have a current Real ID U.S. driver’s license. 

Retention Criteria:

l. Must successfully complete the Subject Interdiction Officer (SIO) training courses and all other required training.

2. Must successfully complete the TIGER/SIO Annual Handgun Certification Course.

3. Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period beginning on the date of SIO training completion.

Education

There is no education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade.

NOTE: More than one selection may be made from this vacancy announcement. The selection list will be active for a period of one (1) year from the date of approval of the selection memorandum. The following selection process will be used to further assess candidates who have met the initial eligibility factors. Candidates must qualify under each phase to be considered in subsequent phases. Phase I: Initial Qualification - The OHR will conduct an eligibility factor review as outlined in this vacancy. Phase II: KSA Assessment- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities will be evaluated by an appointed assessment panel including resume review. Phase III: Physical Assessment – Completion of ROPAT and successful completion of the TIGER/SIO Annual Handgun Certification Course. Phase IV: Structured Interview - Candidates will be scheduled for an oral interview and assessed by the appointed panel. Results of this selection process will be used to recommend candidates to the hiring manager who is the final selecting official. The OHR will conduct a disciplinary action review to determine if there are pending investigatory and/or disciplinary matters, which will be made known to the selecting official. Prior to making their selection, the selecting official will review any available Department documents, to include application documents, and each candidate’s complete career disciplinary record, and results of selection process phases, and may, at their discretion, conduct interviews with all recommended candidates, if necessary. The selecting official may, at their discretion, not select a recommended candidate for reasons such as: 1. Substandard performance; 2. Serious sustained misconduct; and/or 3. Pending investigatory and/or disciplinary matters as identified by the Office of Professional Responsibility. All aspects of the process are subject to the Department's legal review. All final recommendations are subject to final approval of the Chief of Police.
