Duties

Help

  1. Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of Child Development Center, ensuring that Early Childhood Standards complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  2. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  3. Represents Child Development Center with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
  4. Responsible for health and safety of children and ensuring that care provided is in compliance with Child Development guidelines.
  5. Responsible for daily planning in assigned area.

  • Occasionally rotates through various program development functions and duties such as inspections and reports.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Must possess maturity and good judgment and like working with young children and their families.
  • Must provide evidence of required immunizations; and be able to successfully complete required physical exam, including the ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
  • The position is identified as having "regular contact with children", requiring a C-National Agency Check, a State Criminal History Records Check and an Installation Records Check. (cont).
  • (cont). Installation Records Check. The CNACI and Fingerprints is reestablished every five years.
  • Must complete all training requirements including child abuse prevention, recognizing and reporting, customer service and appropriate guidance.
  • May be required to work outside normal duty hours. Training may be conducted on weekends and evening hours.
  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.
  • The work will require the employee to drive a government motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license will be required for the position.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
  • This is a supervisory position, a 1-year probationary period may be required.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. (cont.)
  • (cont.) Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are elibible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22, first child 100%/ each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR CURRENT FEDERAL EMPLOYEES:I have one year of specialized experience to the GS-05 (INTERNAL)/GS-06 (EXTERNAL), grade level in the Federal service which includes Knowledge of child development center operations including developmentally appropriate practices, fire, health, and safety requirements to include the ability to conduct facility inspections in the area; Knowledge of early child development concepts, theory and practices relating to physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.

EDUCATION:
Successfully completed at least one full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to do the work of this position. Note: You must submit a copy of official transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

INTERNAL FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of child development center operations including developmentally appropriate practices, fire, health, and safety requirements to include the ability to conduct facility inspections in these areas.
  2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  5. Knowledge of early child development concepts, theory and practices relating to physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.
  6. Ability to contend with a range of problem common to a child development environment.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
