Join our team as a Maintenance Mechanic in the esteemed Architect of the Capitol, Library Buildings and Grounds, Facilities Support Division, Fort Meade Operations and Maintenance Branch. You'll perform general operations, maintenance, and repair of Building Automation & HVAC Systems. Work may include, but is not limited to the maintenance, repair and installation of commercial/industrial air conditioning and heating systems, plumbing systems, fire sprinkler systems, and electrical systems.

Tours of Duty:

  • Day Shift: Sunday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
  • Evening Shift: Sunday through Thursday , 2:00 pm to 10:30pm
  • Night Shift: Saturday PM through Thursday AM, 10:00 pm to 6:30 am

The incumbent is designated as an "Emergency Employee" and will be required to report to work during emergencies and inclement weather conditions. 

In the event of an environmental condition, fire alarm, or utility outage, the incumbent may be required to respond to the facility. This may occur outside normal working hours.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Adjusting, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting air-conditioning equipment using various testing techniques and related equipment
  • Adjusting, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting chillers and boilers
  • Adjusting, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting electronic and Direct Digital Controls (DDC) including: 
    • DDC control systems on air handler units
    • electronic dampers
    • electronic valves
    • variable speed drives
    • Variable Air Volume Systems
  • Installing, modifying, operating, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures controls, and equipment
  • Planning and laying out the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment. and controls
  • Maintaining, installing, and/or repairing electrical circuits and equipment during construction, maintenance, or renovation of buildings, offices, and workshops
  • Using blueprints, building plans, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of feed and drain systems and equipment
  • Installing new systems, modifying and repairing existing utility, supply, and disposal systems
  • Inspecting, operating, and maintaining the building fire alarm detection/notification system
  • Performing troubleshooting and repair to fire alarm devices
  • Inspecting and maintaining sprinkler system fire and booster (jockey) pumps

Ability to perform Maintenance Mechanic duties and responsibilities without more than normal supervision to include:

  • Independently applying a variety of trade practices (e.g., electrical, pipefitting, plumbing, HVAC repair) to plan, layout and complete the installation, modification, and repair of facility equipment;
  • Performing planned, preventative, and corrective maintenance on electronic and Direct Digital Controls (DDCs) including but not limited to: electronic dampers, electronic valves, variable speed drives, and variable air volume systems. 
  • Operating, maintaining, replacing, and troubleshooting variable frequency drives (VFD).
  • Testing electrical circuits or components for continuity, using electrical test equipment

For WG-10

Ability to perform Maintenance Mechanic duties and responsibilities without more than normal supervision to include:

  • Applying a variety of trade practices (e.g., electrical, pipefitting, plumbing, HVAC repair) to plan, layout and complete the installation, modification, and repair of facility equipment with minimal assistance.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and installing a variety of cooling and heating systems with minimal assistance.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and installing electrical circuits, controls and components with minimal assistance.
