Duties of the position may include but are not limited to

  • Primary duties for electricians at this grade will be working with new and existing electrical equipment, various electrical systems, and associated fixtures, electrical circuits, electrical conductors/feeders, various electrical controls.
  • Specific tasks related to the primary duties of the electrician defined above are testing and troubleshooting, installation, modification, making repairs to, and electrical loading.
  • Other tasks will be working with new and existing secondary distribution systems, to include feeders, switchgears, switches, and downstream distribution panels, branch circuits, electric drives, control circuits, power circuits, various sensors, and industrial multiphase systems.
  • Primary duties will also include work that requires incumbent to read and interpret information from building plans, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, one-lines, blueprints, and manufacturers literature such as maintenance, repair, and/or installation manuals, equipment drawings and cutsheets.
  • . Incumbent must have a comprehensive knowledge of electrical codes per latest edition of the NFPA70. Able to interbit and understand NFPA 99, 100, 101, 110 & 780.
  • Completes performance verification of elevators by running equipment & ensuring proper operation, assists the fire department in the case of an entrapment.
  • Confirms issue to support proper repair by contractor as elevator repairs are under a service contract.
  • If/when an elevator has shutdown complete a cycle reset and get unit back in service or call for vendor. Incumbent must have basic understanding of elevator functionality.
  • At a minimum the incumbent at this grade level shall possess the skills and knowledge to complete any, an all, tasks at the level of a journeyman electrician, such as how various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls are installed, operate, and work together to support industrial operations.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work assignments require moderate to heavy physical effort. Must work from ladders in high places, in manholes, and is on feet most of the time. Must be able to work in and operate various forms of personnel lift equipment such as scissor lifts and articulating boom lifts. Is subject to hazardous conditions of the electrical trade, such as electrical shock or burns.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
