Duties

Help

Primary purpose of this position is to directly support the development and execution of policies, programs, and procedures for implementing integrated primary prevention activities relating to self-directed harm (i.e., self-cutting, drug and alcohol abuse, thoughts of suicide, self-directed abusive thoughts, suicide attempts and suicides), and interpersonal violence (i.e., sexual assault, workplace harassment, and domestic violence), averting harm or abuse before it occurs. Advances policies, practices, and plans outside of the existing Resilience, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention (R3SP) (Army) and Suicide Prevention (Air) office, among others, for equities specific to self-directed and interpersonal harm primary prevention. Assists with IPP needs assessments. Maintains a parallel and clearly defined supporting role to existing JFHQ data collection efforts and advocates prevention messaging with sensitivity to pre-existing trauma. Supports and participates in state-level committees, boards, and working groups. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.

Qualifications

Must have experience or knowledge in each of the following:
Knowledge and experience in the organization, management, and administration of programs and services to participate in self-directed and interpersonal harm prevention program planning.

Skill in applying professional community organization abilities related to the formulation of needs assessments, development of self-directed and interpersonal harm prevention programs, and the marketing of programs.

Knowledge of complex helping systems and professional organizations, how they positively or negatively affect individual and family welfare, and the multiple ways these systems and organizations operate to deliver services

Ability to plan and adequately support the needs of National Guard members by determining what the future needs of the Service Member are through the interpretation and analysis of studies, and trends.

Knowledge of analytical techniques to identify, analyze and/or recommend solutions to problems encountered and to develop Statistical data and narrative reports along with excellent skills in oral and written communication to include report writing and maintaining proper records to document services provided.

Education

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.
OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

4. Appointment of Federal Annuitants: A Federal civilian annuitant under either the CSRS or FERS retirement systems may be reemployed into NG T5 vacancies, but are only eligible for either an Indefinite tenure appointment (max 5 year service period) or Temporary tenure appointment (max 4 year service period). The retiree must notify HRO of their current retirement status prior to appointment.
