Duties

Help

  • Installs, inspects, and performs modifications and repairs to electrical generators both real property and mobile. Perform preventive maintenance on electrical powered support systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical power support systems such as electrical generating plants and automatic transfer switches of various design and manufacture.
  • Maintain, inspect, repairs, diagnoses and modifies aircraft arresting systems. Perform after engagement inspection and certification.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rule and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Maintain records and documents actions.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the
WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

Ideal Candidate:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. Completion of an accredited Electric Power Generation Apprenticeship, DoD Technical School or vocational training program is desired, but not always required. Experience with military Aircraft Arresting Systems is highly desired, but not always required. Experience with Diesel Engine Fire Pumps is desired but not required. Normal color vision and a valid Florida driver's license will be required. Operation of Material Handling Equipment such as forklifts up to 10,000 lb. capacity will be required. Experience with reciprocating internal combustion engines, automatic transfer switches, industrial controls, engine starting batteries, generator alternator stators and rotors, and electric motors is highly advantageous. A solid understanding of electrical theory, troubleshooting methods, math skills, computer literacy, and safety protocols is advantageous. Physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous tasks without restrictions (lifting 50 lbs. unassisted frequently). Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality are essential qualities for this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
I. Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to powered support systems; and the operation of emergency generator power systems.
2. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel and gasoline engines.
3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; environmental standards and requirements; and regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
4. Skill in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides; and using hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, and electrical meters to include special tools such as hydraulic knock-out tools, hammers, drills, valve spring compressors, and micrometers.
5. Skill in installing, operating, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying generators, automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptible power systems; maintaining, overhauling, repairing, and reconditioning internal combustion engines, both diesel and gasoline; and troubleshooting complex situations related to electrical power generators.
6. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide
training to others.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
