Help

As an Electronics Technician, you will perform the following duties:

The ZT-03 position is developmental leading to the full performance level of ZT-04.

- Assists with altering and using complex technical equipment or software or modifying and conducting complex tests and recording and disseminating results.
- Provides updates to higher staff of pending assignments of scientific and engineering work.
- Assists with the design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance of electronic equipment.
- Modifies assignments to accommodate new factors, alter equipment and techniques for new uses, and coordinate several parts of an assignment. -Provides specialized technical support for scientific or engineering research or performs program operations work under initial guidance on project scope and requirements

This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Electronics Technician ZT-0856-3, ZT-04 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position is being filled under the Department Of Commerce Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). Under CAPS, positions are classified by career path and pay band.

For the ZT-03 (GS-9/10), you must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower grade/level of a ZT-02 or GS-07 level in the Federal Service.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Assisting with operating radio frequency (RF) test and measurement equipment, including antennas and antenna systems under the direction of higher-level staff;
  • Assisting with the installation and maintenance of RF systems and equipment under the direction of higher-level staff;
  • Applying basic electronic theory and established industry standards to assist with the development, modification, and testing of RF equipment under the direction of higher-level staff;
  • Following established procedures for testing and troubleshooting electronic equipment and systems; AND
  • Recording and documenting electronic system performance incidents, problems, or anomalies.

Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
A. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. (Transcript Required)

B. Combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
