Duties

Help

Major Duties:

  • Sorts incoming external and internal mail and delivers all United States Postal Service (U.S.P.S.) inter and intra departmental and agency letter and parcel mail in accordance with the mail scheme established for Audie L. Murphy Division (ALMD)
  • Presorts and processes all outgoing U.S.P.S. letter and parcel mail as well as determining the most expeditious manner of transport, including Federal Express, US Postal Service and overnight or priority.
  • Assist in special pharmaceutical and mail surveys to determine turn-around time. Results are used for strategic planning and to assure compliance with JACHO.
  • Makes delivery of registered, certified and insured mail to the U.S. Post Office, by motor vehicle, as required. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Operates postal metering, weighing and manifesting equipment, which is computer assisted and provide monthly statistics for mailing reports to VACO.
  • Knowledge of prescribed systems for governing the flow and control of communications, and/or the filing or storage and retrieval of records, and knowledge's of the organization and functions of the operating unit or units serviced.
  • Monitor all mailing supplies such as meter tapes, inks, various envelopes and packaging, labels, printer paper and insures that the supervisor is aware of inventory status at all times.
  • Operates the station facsimile equipment, processes and distributes publications, information bulletins, policy memorandums, etc.
  • Analyze equipment malfunctions to ascertain the need for adjustments, supplies or repairs and will provide the appropriate actions to correct the malfunction, which may include calling for the trained contract service technician. Operates copy machines and duplication equipment.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Postal Service regulations, such as those contained in the Domestic Mail Manual and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) mail handling regulations.
  • Delivers correspondence and mail outside medical experts, doctor referrals, medical appointments and medical records to include members of the medical center staff and patients alike.
  • Communicate effectively with all contacts to maintain the integrity, responsiveness and effectiveness of the Logistics Mail Management programs.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • General Experience: You must have one year of general experience. Examples of general experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of U.S. Postal Service regulations and mail handling regulations; knowledge of administrative and professional subject matters in order to classify material, prepare file contents and route materials quickly and efficiently; AND knowledge of basic computer and typing skills to operate the agency's computer program applications for patient location computer based postal equipment, mailing reports and workload reports. OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED). OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 2 years above high school. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED).
