Duties

Help
  • Guide the preparation of secure postal shipments and armored carrier transports to the Dept of State, regional offices, as well as other end users.
  • Monitor all deliveries to/from platform assuring that security controls are in place.
  • Verify content, carton assembly, and security of shipments and assure that stock items are properly marked, tagged, labeled and placed in proper locations.
  • Directs and assists with loading and unloading cargo, including securing and properly distributing loads and transporting specified carts using a hand-operated power truck.
  • Assist the journeyperson in cleaning to include dust removal, sweeping, vacuuming, disposal of trash and production waste.

  • Selectee must pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.

  • Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
  • Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
  • Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
  • Working Conditions: The incumbent is exposed to low frequency noise generated by bindery equipment. The work is performed indoors, with no exposure to excessive heat or cold.
  • A Strength Test may be required.
  • Preemployment drug test may be required.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Printing Plant Worker (Secure Credential), KX-4401-6 position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must meet the following SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT #1: Ability to do the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Secure Credentials) without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) to be considered eligible for the position. These duties require 1) Skill to set up, operate, and make user adjustments to the shipment label printer, 2) Verify the integrity of the cartons, seals, and contents, and 3) Write shipment receipts, record receipt numbers, and other pertinent information on shipment reports.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Work Life Balance:
The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
