Summary
These positions are located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Acquisition and Logistics, National Acquisition Center, Denver Logistics Service (DLS), Veteran Logistics Branch in Golden, Colorado. The DLS operates as a Supply Funded retail and wholesale distribution center in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Performs nonsupervisory work involving the physical receipt, identification, examination, classification, final acceptance, and disposition of materials and equipment in the DLS warehouse.
Controls, determines, selects, verifies, and processes individual orders of medical supplies, including prosthetic and sensory aid items, from one or more specific commodity programs, for shipment directly to Veterans and Department of Defense Healthcare Facilities worldwide.
Follow established procedures in receiving, checking, verifying, sorting and classifying materials and equipment by stock numbers, size, classification, and condition. Compares data relating to item characteristics, descriptions, conditions, and quantities against accompanying invoice, bill-of-lading, purchase order documents, or computerized readouts and notes any discrepancies. Discrepancies are reported to higher graded workers for resolution.
Utilize sophisticated computer systems and programs for the accurate accounting, quality control, discrepancy analysis and resolution. This includes the interpretation and process of all related documentation and identifying discrepancies, defects and detailed merchandise acceptability.
Duties include, unpacking boxes, crates, and cartons that contain specialized medical/prosthetic equipment, commodities, electronic equipment, sensitive, and fragile use items from manufacturing sources, Telehealth items returned directly from Veterans and returns from other VA Medical Center and Clinical installations.
Receives supply items in accordance with organizational procedures.
Coordinates the storage and handling of incoming shipments.
Receives supply items that require special handling due to high value, security requirements, fragility, etc.
Assists in maintaining the inventory system of a large supply facility, including proper stock locations and rotations.
May work as the experienced MH teaming with lower and higher grade workers by receiving, separating, dismantling, sorting, and testing a variety of specialized home Telehealth and durables to determine whether they are acceptable for refurbishing and re-issue or unacceptable for purposes intended and needing proper disposal.
Conducts inventories to track discrepancies and maintain appropriate stock levels.
Utilizes state-of-the-art mail processing systems to process incoming and outgoing mail/parcels of a variety of sizes, weights, and classes for shipment via the United States Postal Service, United Parcel Service, Fed-Ex and other freight carriers.
Operates and maintains sophisticated, state of the art Automated Packaging Systems for the processing of specific commodity items, to include navigating within applicable custom software programs and processes.
Assists in conducting inventories and subsequent analysis of same, as required by a specific schedule of commodity items, to maintain appropriate stock levels, identify and track discrepancies, and verify specific transaction processing procedures, in accordance with established facility policies.
Examines off-the-shelf products; items well marked by codes, nameplates, serial numbers, or distinctive colors, shapes, and sizes; or materials of distinctive color, ply or strength. The position also deals with unique items, special order items, test or trial items, and commodities for other use within the DLS.
Maintains proper care, operation, and protection of DLS vehicles by routinely checking fluid levels of the battery, oil, radiator at each fueling in order to prevent any unnecessary vehicle failures.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and similar activities in and around distribution areas on a concrete floor. Routinely lifts and carries items that weigh up to the maximum allowable weight for common carriers (UPS, FEDEX, US Postal Service, etc.) - normally up to 70 pounds. Extended periods of intense concentration are required to insure the accuracy and timeliness of the work product. Employee typically works in an indoor environment involving everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms. Observance of normal safety practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations is required. The area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work may require wearing of protective clothing, such as steel-toes shoes, masks, gloves, etc. The employee is regularly exposed to the possibility of minor cuts, scrape, bruises, and abrasions. Requires assembly and disassembly of industrial steel shelving, furniture, and equipment as assigned.
