Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains day-to-day responsibility for the oversight of the professional practice staff and collaborates with Mental Health leadership, region/facility BHIP leads, and team leads to ensure that they provide the highest quality of care to veterans served.
  • Assists Mental Health leadership in planning, establishing, and implementing the BHIP model with high fidelity.
  • Attends all national and VISN-level calls related to BHIP to represent the facility.
  • Provides leadership and guidance in carrying out program planning.
  • Gathers data routinely to disseminate to BHIP Team Leads in recurring BHIP Team Leadership Meetings.
  • Provides a full range of diagnostic, assessment and treatment services to Veterans presenting with psychological, emotional, and behavioral problems.
  • Obtains medical histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Orders diagnostic studies and other special tests, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT) scans, etc.
  • Performs emergency duties carried out for patients in life-threatening situations where a physician is not immediately available.
  • Coordinates hospital admission when clinically indicated and writing medication orders reflecting all current medications regimens
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications

Physician Assistant Basic Requirements

  • Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~
  • Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience: Outpatient Mental Health experience, leadership experience, project management experience

Grade Determinations: Physician Assistant-IV (PA-IV)
  1. Experience. PA clinical leaders/administrative leaders require five years of experience which included leadership assignments that involved formulating program objectives and priorities, implementing plans and practices, and 9 interpreting regulatory and organizational guidance to develop and implement policies and/or procedures.
  2. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. PAs at this level are not required to meet each individual KSA listed below to qualify, but should be able to demonstrate, develop, or acquire those not met upon appointment for PA-IV:
    • a. Ability to assess information and make recommendations that may significantly affect the content, interpretation, or development of programs concerning critical matters or key issues within the health care system.
    • b. Ability to schedule and supervise staff, students, or ancillary personnel, to include conducting performance evaluations.
    • c. Skill in planning, organizing, directing, and controlling an integrated program.
    • d. Skill in design, management of budget, and cost benefit analysis to ensure optimal stewardship of resources.
    • e. Ability to analyze complex medical care, organizational processes and/or systems, and develop and implement solutions that improve outcomes at the program or service level.
    • f. Ability to develop and recommend new or revised policies or procedures to justify program goals and motivate assigned personnel.

The full performance level of this vacancy is PA-IV.

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily facility based and has no requirement for strenuous physical activity. The incumbent will sit, stand, walk, throughout the facility during the tour of duty. There may be requirement to travel within the catchment area, VISN, or nationally. Duties may require attendance at non-VA facilities and events in the community for the purpose of networking, supervision, and training of staff. This position requires operation of a government-owned or - leased motor vehicle to properly carry out assigned duties. A valid state-issued driver license is required, along with medical clearance by Employee Occupational Health.
