This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Pass on assignments to workgroup, ensuring standards and deadlines are met. While demonstrating detailed knowledge of the characteristics and hazards in handling many different types of ammunition (both standard and nonstandard).

Duties

Help
  • Check work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
  • Urge or advise other employees to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines; and demonstrate proper work methods.
  • Answer questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders).
  • Obtain needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work.
  • Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems.

  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Munitions Inspector (Testing) Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common duties which include performing various ammunition tests using a wide range of gauges, torque wrenches, holding fixtures, testing devices and APE equipment, while using special electronic test equipment; Demonstrate proper work methods; Monitor work assignments as needed to meet the mission. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT
  • Work performance requires heavy lifting (50 lbs.), good eyesight, and large amounts of walking (up to five miles) between test areas and inspection bays. Inspectors are required to bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods of time to work around the equipment during operations and troubleshooting activities.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Works both inside and outside with exposure to weather extremes. Exposed to dirt, grease, cleaning solvents, sharp metal strapping, high explosives, and propellants, bare boostering explosives, chemical smoke devices, flammable solids (i.e., WP, RP, powdered metals, etc.,) electrostatically initiated ammunition, materials sensitive to static sparks and nonstandard materials. Works in areas where hearing and eye protection is required. Work includes donning full protective clothing (Tyvek) when performing some testing. Operators subject to profuse perspiration and extreme fatigue when working in protective clothing. Operators are subject to injuries such as cuts, bruises and burns while performing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Operators are subject to broken bones and injuries from falls when working on elevated structures. Operators are required to wear fall protection harnesses in some situations.
