The primary purpose of this position, Special Weapons System Mechanic Leader, WL-6656-11, is to lead three or more journeyman and sub-journeyman mechanics in the process of disassembly, overhaul, modification, diagnostics, repair and test for the Air Launched Cruise Missile and associated subsystems.

Duties

Help

  1. Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers.
  2. Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.
  3. Become task certified on missiles and components that are contained within the position description by attending and successfully completing OJT, classroom training, and demonstrating proficiency in performing those tasks.
  4. Accomplish complete operational certification testing of assembled missiles following overhaul.
  5. Operate programmed test equipment to accomplish pre-disassembly diagnostic test of missiles and components, which require verification of operational characteristics to determine if they are within acceptable tolerances, or to isolate malfunctions to a subsystem or component.
  6. Perform missile final preparation and shipping tasks.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is Ability To Lead Or Supervise.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, and crawl. Handles items weighing 25 pounds or over with mechanical or human assistance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated production areas. May work outside or inside in areas that are drafty and noisy. Stands on concrete, metal, or hard composite floors for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to grease, oils, fuels, and solvents, to noise from drills and hammers, and to the possibility for cuts and bruises.

Additional information

Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III ICBM, and performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10, and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City. The area is known for year round activities, including skiing, hiking, boating, extreme sports, fishing and hunting, with four distinct seasons, low humidity and moderate snow fall in the valley.
