Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Clinical Psychologist Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) for the Clinic and Behavioral Health System of Care (BHSOC) Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) program.
  • Provide individual and group treatment, using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem-focused interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoeducational classes.
  • Assess and provide intervention for individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions, and behavioral health issues affecting medical conditions to include assessment and disposition of beneficiaries with acute and chronic risk.
  • Provide psychological and clinical consultation to physicians, other professionals and paraprofessionals through established consultation channels.
  • Assess and provide intervention for individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions, and behavioral health issues affecting medical conditions to include assessment and disposition of beneficiaries with acute and chronic risk.
  • Provide feedback to Primary Care Managers (PCMs) regarding consultation findings and recommendations as directed by the current DHA PCBH Administrative Instruction.
  • Educate clinic staff on the principles of primary care behavioral health via trainings and briefings.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires Tuberculosis testing.
  • Hepatitis B immunizations is required.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist:

Degree:
Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

Selective Placement Factor Licensure: This position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements below:

Specialized Experience:
In order to qualify, your resume must demonstrate that you possess at least one year of specialized experience, which includes conducting psychological evaluations, developing behavioral health treatment plans, and providing psychological counseling services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. A job offer to an applicant who is not a current employee subject to this requirement will be withdrawn if the candidate refuses to undergo immunization screening.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
  • This position requires successful completion of mandatory DHA PCBH BHC training confirmed by a
    DHA PCBH Program Manager within 3 months of hire (unless DHA is unable to provide the training
    within 3 months). This training is completed virtually but may require a week of duty hours outside
    the normal clinic operating hours (if not located in Eastern Time Zone).
  • Advanced in hire may be authorized.
  • Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
