Duties

Help

- Receives, routes, and moves parts, assemblies, components, and other materials into and out of industrial shops.
- Drives one or more types of heavy vehicles, such as pick--up trucks, platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks) 6K and 10K forklift.
- Performs operator maintennnce1 such as checking fluid levels and air pressure m tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.
- Operates electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds as high as 168 inches.
- Drives one or more types of trucks such as pickup, panel, and flatbed trucks, which typically have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less, on public roads,
- Utilities safety practice and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing and Stock Handling Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a MATERIALS EXPEDITER (FORKLIFT/MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR) without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of technical practices to be able to route, move, assemble, receive, select, and obtain items,
2. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operational; and passenger safety rules including those regarding the use of seatbelts
3. Skill in handling forklift controls for starting, stopping, backing, lifting, lowering, tilting, and driving forklift trucks through narrow aisles, up and down ramps, and in and out of trucks; manipulating motor vehicle controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions; and judging overhead and side clearances, turning radius, and braking distances.
4. Ability to carry out work practices such as verifying and correcting routing and ordering documents and keeping things neat, clean, and ln order.
5. Ability to read and interpret instructions, operator manuals, and production control and supply documents; and route, obtain, and expedite parts, end items, supplies, and materials.
6. Ab1lity to meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules
7. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route

Physical Effort:
Employee regularly handles we1ghts of up to 40 pounds unassisted. Employee occasionally handles weights up to 60 pounds. Material handling devices and assistance of other workers are available for handling especially heavy items. Heavy exertions frequent. Frequent kneeling, crouching, stooping, and walking are required. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving bands, and feet., and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of forklift trucks. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire.

Working Conditions:
Regularly exposed to possible injuries associated with handling equipment. Work is usually performed indoors in well lighted and well-ventilated shop areas. Forklift operation work is normally inside in areas that are sometimes damp and drafty. Drives motor vehicles mall types of traf5c and weather conditions. May be exposed to outdoor conditions for short time periods. Regularly exposed to shop noises, dirt, fumes, and vibrations.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
