The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO) Guardian Resilience Team (GRT) at Kirtland Air Force Base is searching for a Physical Therapist (NH-0633-03, GS 12/13 equivalent).

Description:
The incumbent will serve as a Physical Therapist on one of the Space Force's embedded health and human performance teams, the Guardian Resilience Team (GRT). The incumbent is also the unit's musculoskeletal subject-matter expert, providing a range of services related to musculoskeletal health, injury-risk mitigation, and comprehensive human performance to Space Force operational personnel. These services include but are not limited to limited-scope care in the operational area(s); injury-risk reduction screening and education; human performance education and training; promoting regular physical activity; sound nutritional advice; ergonomic assessments; treatment plans and referrals; and return-to-duty bridge programs.

The incumbent assists in program management and contributes to and assists in leading Holistic Health Assessment (HHA) action plans across the area of responsibility. The incumbent collaborates with the GRT Strength and Conditioning Specialist to form the GRT Sports Medicine Team. Together, they provide subject matter expertise on all topics covering optimal human performance and injury risk mitigation and provide education and training to unit physical training leaders, unit leadership, and other relevant human performance stakeholders. The incumbent will assist across programs in implementing prevention events and training/education and leveraging approaches that increase efficiencies and buy-in with Service members and civilians. The incumbent will actively collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify collective goals, intended outcomes, needs analyses, and optimal methods to optimize and maintain Guardian performance, readiness, and resilience within the concepts and tenets of the HHA.

The ideal candidate will possess, at a minimum, a master's degree in physical therapy, with a Doctorate preferred, and at least three years of experience. This candidate must also have experience directly supervising or mentoring individuals.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Professional knowledge of operational concepts and missions sufficient to understand, plan, deliver and evaluate/analyze physical requirements and how rehabilitative and injury-risk reduction strategies can affect mission readiness and capabilities.
2. Knowledge of planning, implementation, and assessment techniques and principles as they apply to physical therapy/human performance programming and education, sufficient to serve as training resource advisor/consultant.
3. Knowledge and experience in the specialty of Lifestyle Medicine, its foundations, and application as primary modality to prevent, treat and often reverse chronic disease.
4. Knowledge and skill in using state-of-the-art computer-based software and other instructional/evaluative material, wearable technology, current and highly specialized human performance/rehabilitative equipment, facility recommendations and practices, training aids and devices applicable to program objectives, training effectiveness, and efficiency.
5. Knowledge of medical conditions and terminology as well as of human behavior change theories, motivational strategies, and counseling techniques to resolve the most difficult problems associated with uncooperative or unmotivated Guardians necessary for rehabilitation.
6. Skill in data analysis, fact finding, problem analysis, problem resolutions, and development of concrete action plans to solve problems.
7. Skill in written and oral communication to advise, counsel, influence and make recommendations to management officials concerning medical, health, and administrative aspects of the Human Performance and Holistic Health Assessment.

  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY).
  • This position is onsite and not eligible for remote work.
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
