The United States Space Force (USSF) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, CA is searching for a Personnel Security Specialist to support SSC/S2 (NH-0080-03, GS-12/13 equivalent).


Description:
The United States Space Force, Space Systems Command, Directorate of Intelligence is seeking a motivated and highly skilled security professional. Candidate will be supporting cutting-edge development and acquisition of Department of War space capabilities: (1). Provides security expertise to the Personnel Security (PERSEC) section in the Special Security Office (SSO) ensuring that the Command's SSO PERSEC team administers the SCI security programs for Space Systems Command (SSC). (2). Leads and develops personnel security processes in access control, tailors' processes to enable the mission and meet requirements set forth in USSF/S2, SIO, SSO and DoD policies, directives, instructions, and manuals. (3). Provides SCI PERSEC assistance and guidance to Program Offices, supporting DoD contractor personnel, Special Security Representatives, Contractor Special Security Officers, Contract Officer Representatives, and program managers on technical and procedural problems. (4). Determine the suitability and security eligibility of individuals for entry and retention in sensitive and non-sensitive positions.

Ideal Candidate:
Knowledge of Space System Command and government acquisitions. Knowledge of security disciplines as applied to classified environments. Knowledge of state-of-the-art security equipment and devices for protection of SCI unique work area. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret w/SCI clearance. Experienced with handling and safeguarding sensitive and/or classified information. Must attain all required security professional certifications within 2 years of accepting the position.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of security processes and procedures as applied to classified environments. This involves the knowledge of various security disciplines, concepts and methods within the special security area to execute security controls, projects and/or studies within established time constraints and control systems.
2. Ability to encourage new ideas and apply security methods and practices to solve complex problems and provide support that mitigates risk and enables the mission.
3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures for ensuring the safeguarding of classified information.
4. Ability to persuade others to accept recommendations, work toward an agreement, and negotiate mutually acceptable solutions.
5. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, draft and conduct effective training and satisfy expectations.
6. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations and agencies; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.

  • Must be a U.S Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Safeguards classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
  • Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • PCS funding is authorized.
  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
  • Department of Defense Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) and Security Asset Protection Professional Certification (SAPPC) are required within 2 years.
