Duties

Help

As a Personnel Security Specialist, at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties:

  • Adjudicate credentialing, fitness, suitability, and national security eligibility of individuals for entry and retention in sensitive, non-sensitive, and/or public trust positions.
  • Serve as a technical authority in making credentialing, fitness/suitability, and national security eligibility decisions.
  • Train and provide guidance to entry-level personnel and others.
  • Evaluate requests for personnel security investigations and security clearances on applicants, employees and contractors.
  • Ensure that the appropriate processing and record keeping related to personnel security cases/investigations is followed.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:
GS-12: Applicant must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that includes 3 or more of the following:

  1. Applying personnel security practices across multiple determination types (e.g. credentialing, fitness, suitability, and national security eligibility).
  2. Obtaining sufficient evidence to support personnel security determinations.
  3. Making recommendations and decisions related to credentialing, fitness, suitability, and/or national security eligibility.
  4. Relaying information related to adjudication and/or background investigations to junior staff.

Specialized Experience:
GS-13: Applicant must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service that includes 3 or more of the following:
  1. Reviewing, evaluating and making determinations related to personnel security cases (e.g. credentialing, fitness, suitability, and/or national security eligibility).
  2. Providing guidance/advice on credentialing, fitness, suitability, and/or national security eligibility cases.
  3. Preparing written correspondence, reports, and/or briefings related to personnel security to a broad range of audiences.
  4. Developing and providing training to junior staff members and/or other personnel.
