Duties

Help
  • Responsible for organizing and balancing the team’s daily workload in alignment with supervisor established priorities.
  • Ensure a safe and positive work environment and elevate any concerns or problems to the supervisor.
  • Keep the supervisor aware of employee concerns and ensure employees understand management goals and objectives.
  • Perform a broad range of front-line administrative support duties essential to daily clinic operations.
  • Schedule appointments, greet incoming patients, answer phone calls, and direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Assist with preliminary patient examinations, perform vision screening procedures, and accurately set up, operates, and documents results from the Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer.
  • Prepare and submit spectacle orders for fabrication, and upon delivery verify accuracy through visual inspection and lensometer measurements.
  • Select and administer diagnostic ocular medications to perform pupil dilation procedures based on patient age, clinical concerns, and testing requirements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service which includes assisting with clinic operations by assigning and balancing workloads; scheduling appointments and maintaining records; conducting visual screenings and operating equipment such as autorefraction, tonometry, and Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer; and assisting patient witheyewear selection. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
