This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Category rating, veteran's preference, and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do NOT apply for this vacancy.
Support the Safety Manager in planning, developing, and administering the Sierra Army Depot safety program.
Apply safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
Document mishaps by gathering witness statements, photographs and injuries that occurred to recommend corrective actions.
Determine appropriate protective equipment needed for hazard-control methods.
Conduct traning of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
Incumbent must be able to acquire a Professional Certificate of Safety and Occupational Health (PCSOH) and Professional Certificate of Industrial Safety (PCIS) certification within the first two years of appointment.

Specialized Experience at the GS-07 level: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Manage safety or occupational health program elements, 2) Apply safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements, and 3) Implement programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: One full year of graduate level education with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene).

Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) OR degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or master's or equivalent graduate degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
