Duties

Help
  • Gather, assess, and standardize field data, aerial imagery, and other source materials; ensure alignment with established office record-keeping standards.
  • Accurately input, review, and validate spatial and tubular data within GIS systems.
  • Maintain organized digital archives of maps, source data, and supporting documentation for office.
  • Ensure reliable records for office decision-making and historical reference.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational requirement: You must have experience in cartography or in a related field such as photogrammetry or geodesy, where the work required similar knowledge and skills -OR- full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included at least 18 semester hours in courses in cartography, relevant mathematical and statistical sciences, or related sciences, e.g., physical geography or geodesy. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized Experience: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity such as photogrammetry or geodesy, where the work required similar knowledge and skills -OR- Education: One full year of graduate education directly related to cartography. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work is mostly sedentary; however, some lifting, bending, and carrying are required to move and service equipment, handle source materials and supplies, and to arrange office space. The work requires a marked degree of hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and concentration and involves regular and recurring periods of prolonged sitting at drafting light tables, digitizing tablets, and computer workstations.

Work Environment: The work is performed in an office or similar setting requiring normal safety precautions against everyday risks or discomforts. The job may require some field work where there may be exposure to rain, heat, and cold. In this environment, prescribed safety precautions should be taken.

One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
