Duties

Help
  • Conduct work site surveys to identify and evaluate environmental hazards and potential health hazards.
  • Determine compliance with established threshold limit values (TLV), evaluating exposures, and advising on control measures and changes in work procedures or schedules to comply with established environmental and health requirements.
  • Perform analysis using standard methods to determine nature and degree of toxic material present in a variety of materials such as environmental samples and industrial products
  • Determine measurements to be made and methods to be used, calibrate and adapt various kinds of equipment, such as standard spectrophotometers, air sampling trains, and gas chromatographic apparatus.
  • Instruct employees on proper selection, usage, and care of respirators in accordance with all applicable regulations.

  • This position requires a Secret security clearance.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 30% of the time.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position may involve exposure to various unpleasant and potentially hazardous conditions during inspections including noise, toxic chemicals, and heat and cold.
  • This position involves moderate physical exertion which includes carrying equipment, climbing, standing, walking, and bending.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience: 1) conducting work site surveys to identify and evaluate environmental hazards and potential health hazards; 2) performing analysis using standard methods to determine nature and degree of toxic material present in a variety of materials such as environmental samples and industrial products; 3) conducting surveys to evaluate existing potential health hazards and recommending solutions to problems.

Education
