Duties

Help
  • Performs a variety of specialized receptionist duties associated with patient care and treatment in the Emergency Department (ED).
  • The employee recognizes emergency situations and rapidly connects the patient with needed services
  • Receives patients, visitors as the initial point of contact, and telephone calls; refers calls to appropriate staff
  • Escorts patients into other areas for labs, x-rays, prescription fills; registers and refers emergency patients for treatment; answers a variety of medical, personnel, and administrative inquiries; confirms eligibility; and maintains patient logs.
  • Creates, retrieves, closes-out, and distributes ED patient charts; inputs health care provider's orders via data entry.
  • Maintain patient records, both electronic and hard copy, according to policies, procedures, and medical treatment facility regulations.
  • Obtains, enters, and files results of laboratory, x-ray, electrocardiograms, and other procedures in patient's records
  • Performs a variety of record-keeping duties using thorough knowledge of internal organization of patient records and the relationship of their parts

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Incumbent is required to be screened for applicable immunizations and subject to missing/required immunizations
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a favorable result from a National Agency Background Check.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical duties such as maintaining files, answering telephone calls, and/or receiving patients/guest within a clinic or medical treatment facility (MTF); providing basic medical information to patients, medical staff, or the general public; and assisting with scheduling patient appointments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
