Help

The Legislative Computer Systems (LCS) division within the Office of the Clerk is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Network Operations team.  This is a mid - senior level position where you can use your expertise to help us deploy next level cloud applications for our stakeholders.  You will be a key technical resource implementing architectural designs, managing configurations and installation of cloud-based applications, and providing operational support of cloud infrastructures.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate and operate cloud environments for multiple applications.
  • Assist with deployment and operational support of cloud infrastructure.
  • Monitor, support and troubleshoot cloud environments for multiple applications.
  • Work with engineering, security, and operations staff to ensure cloud deployments are secure, observable, and stable.
  • Deploy and operate cloud-based systems that are secure, robust, and scalable.
  • Implement and monitor enterprise integrations such as networking and security monitoring to ensure security and stability.
  • Research cloud solutions, and prototype platform and infrastructure solutions in coordination with engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with the engineering, operations, security, and enterprise teams to improve the performance, security, and cost-effectiveness of cloud applications.
  • Monitor service usage and costs and propose more efficient and cost-effective solutions.
  • Be available for on-call support as needed. Understand and support other services of the Legislative Computer Systems (LCS) and assists in coordinating efforts with vendors, other departments, and users in the Clerk’s Office.
  • Accepts performance-based criticism and direction, meets attendance requirements as established by the office and works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights, and weekends, when necessary, willingness to accept overtime on short notice.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with other LCS staff, works cooperatively and courteously with others, works well under pressure, and handles stress appropriately; and performs other official duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of experience providing operational support in Azure, AWS, or Google.
  • Have experience writing scripts in Bash or PowerShell.
  • Be familiar with DevOps methodology and tools such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Able to work under pressure and work after hours and weekends on as needed basis.
  • A team player with strong analytical skills and the ability to understand and resolve complex problems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of all responsibilities.

Additional desired experience

  • Sound knowledge of Terraform.
  • Experience with implementing infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure as Code concepts.
  • BS/BA in a STEM discipline from an accredited university.
  • Experience with Azure preferred.
