Duties

Help

  • Supports and assists in maintaining readiness, emergency management, and deployment plans for the Force Support Squadron. Reviews and updates operational plans, emergency response procedures, and base support plans under guidance while ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Performs routine mortuary affairs functions including processing death notifications, verifying eligibility documentation, and supporting coordination of remains processing. Reviews and verifies next of kin authorization under supervision, supports release procedures from medical facilities, and ensures proper identification procedures are followed according to established guidelines.
  • Supports personnel deployment operations by maintaining Unit Type Code data, processing routine deployment requirements, and coordinating with Installation Deployment Office. Reviews and processes personnel for deployment processing according to established command guidance and supports smooth flow of routine deployment activities.
  • Provides routine administrative support for program operations including budget tracking support, resource coordination, and maintaining equipment and supply records. Reviews self-inspection programs by examining reports, tracking corrective actions, and monitoring compliance within established timeframes under supervision.
  • Supports training program activities for readiness, emergency management, and mortuary affairs functional areas. Maintains training records, schedules, and certification tracking while coordinating with subject matter experts and training agencies under guidance.

  • At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management for the 0301 series must be met.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, irregular hours, and be subject to recall to support unscheduled weather support requirements at any time
  • This is a key position. Incumbent must be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available
  • The incumbent may be required to take part in test alerts and practice exercises. Mobilization-key position is a key position under the provisions of AFI 36-202, civilian mobility
  • The duties of this position meet all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency
  • or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and cannot become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,")
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions,

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: (1) Applying Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), and Air Force regulations, policies, and procedures governing readiness, emergency management, deployment operations, and mortuary affairs programs sufficient to perform routine operations and ensure compliance; (2) working with mortuary affairs principles, practices, and procedures including standard benefits, entitlements, and coordination requirements for military members, retirees, and dependents; (3) working with deployment processes, emergency management, and organizational readiness including contingency planning, automated systems, and routine readiness operations; and (4) using budgetary concepts and administrative procedures including routine financial management, contracting coordination support, and Government Purchase Card operations.

EDUCATION:
Successfully completed a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of Federal, DOD, and Air Force regulations, policies, and procedures governing readiness, emergency management, deployment operations, and mortuary affairs programs sufficient to perform routine operations and ensure compliance.

2. Knowledge of basic mortuary affairs principles, practices, and procedures including standard benefits, entitlements, and coordination requirements for military members, retirees, and dependents.

3. Knowledge of deployment processes, emergency management, and organizational readiness including contingency planning, automated systems, and routine readiness operations.

4. Knowledge of basic budgetary concepts and administrative procedures including routine financial management, contracting coordination support, and Government Purchase Card operations.

5. Skill in reviewing, organizing, and coordinating routine program operations to support program effectiveness, and meet requirements within established guidelines.

6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse audiences including bereaved families, commanders, and external agencies while demonstrating tact and diplomacy.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
