Duties

Help
  • Coding and diagnosis related group (DRG) Assignments.
  • Oversees the activities and services of the ambulatory/inpatient sections.
  • Ensures facility meets Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Army (DA), and MTF goals and standards in all coding and diagnosis related group (DRG) assignment procedures, quality levels, and productivity expectations.
  • Reviews clinical records for purpose of obtaining all data pertaining to previous reporting.
  • Refers any discrepancies in the sequencing of diagnoses and procedures to the provider for resolution with justification for proposing changes.
  • Conducts initial and remedial individual instruction for assigned employees regarding proper records review, coding, and maintenance.
  • Performs qualitative analysis of inpatient medical records.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) and 1 coding credential from AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) from AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) is highly desired and must be submitted in your application.


Specialize experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes determine appropriate diagnoses and/or procedure codes for diseases, injuries, and operations; reviewing, auditing, and analyzing clinical medical records for compliance; compile statistical data relating to medical records and/or release medical records; and storing, retrieving, maintaining, and retiring medical records.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
