Help

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Incumbent is responsible for a variety of work primarily involving carpentry, painting, moving, assembly and installation of furnishings, construction projects, signage, as well as related items, included in the maintenance and repair of building interiors and exteriors.
  • Incumbent would be able to measure, cut, construct, install, repair, and modify wood, composite, and wood substitute items where specific fit and accuracy are within allowable limits to produce a serviceable product.
  • He/she will apply standard measurements: specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing, or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds.
  • He/she has general knowledge of wood, composite material, wood substitutes, and woodworking techniques, as well basic shop mathematics to plan, measure, and lay out materials according to dimensional requirements and specifications.
  • He/she will typically follow specific instructions and are aided with templates, or preplanned, or precut materials.
  • Incumbent is able to paint by standard coating methods such as brushing, tolling, and spraying, using coating materials that are prepared according to specific directions, and by the application of coating techniques that ensure surfaces are fully coated, protected, and free from drips and runs.
  • Incumbent receives work orders and oral instructions that indicate the surfaces to be coated and the coating materials to be used.
  • Incumbent prepares surfaces by methods such as sanding and wire brushing.
  • He/ She shall have the ability to climb ladders to perform duties such as changing ceiling tiles, looking above ceiling to identify issues, cutting ceiling tiles for precise fit and hang requested items on walls with precision.
  • Incumbent works on such surface are sidewalk, steps, walls, curbs, ramps, roads, and runways.
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 6AM-4:30PM, Work schedule subject to change based on agency needs.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/30/2026.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Some work is performed in shop areas where the worker is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, saw dust in the air, glue fumes, and hazard associated with woodworking related power equipment. When working at job sites, workers may be exposed to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. They are subject to cuts, bruises, and contusions. Carpentry workers may work in confined areas such crawl spaces and attics which may be dusty and dirty. They use protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, dust masks, and gloves. Incumbent will work inside and outdoors in conditions that will often be dirty, dusty, with natural occurring allergens and greasy. When at a job site, strenuous physical exertion is required when handling heavy and bulky materials such ae sheets of plywood, framing members, and other building and construction materials, and is an essential function of this position.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
