Duties

Help
  • Maintain responsibility for the enforcement of appropriate laws as they apply to jurisdictional areas within the installation.
  • Operate various types of radios or other electronic devices to pass and receive clear-cut information.
  • Plan and coordinate the activities of a guard force shift, to ensure the maintenance of physical security standards and the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws.
  • Develop training plans based on approved training courses and regulatory requirements and supervise necessary training for guard personnel in the use of weapons, protection against espionage, sabotage, and other organized subversive actions.
  • Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the security guard force.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The incumbent must be assigned for mandatory drug testing and must agree to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis in accordance with Army Regulation 600-85.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle.
  • Position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (the Lautenberg Amendment). This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, incumbent is required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime, and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
  • The incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • The incumbent must meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 190-56.
  • The incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • The incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability requiring the incumbent to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield, and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • The incumbent must undergo and pass pre-employment and annual medical exams of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
  • The incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56, maintaining a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Protecting personnel and/or property against threats such as fire, theft, damage, accident, and/or trespass; (2) Conducting patrols of restricted and/or limited access areas; and (3) Leading and/or supervising personnel and/or projects. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date). The selectee's inability to successfully pass; or refusal to conduct the test may result in 1) the tentative or final job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process; or 2) subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.
