The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California is searching for an Education Services Specialist (NH-1702-02, GS 5-11 equivalent).
Description:
The Education Services Specialist's primary purpose of this position is to assist the Education Services Officer (ESO) in providing professional and specialized administrative and technical assistance in the development and operation of all education and training services programs.
The Education Services Specialist provides comprehensive career, academic, and force development advisement to military personnel of all ranks, their dependents, and Department of Defense (DoD) civilians. This position is responsible for planning, administering, and assessing the effectiveness of a wide array of education programs, ranging from basic skills to Master's degree programs, tailored to meet the needs of the community. A key function includes serving as the installation's technical expert for the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF). Furthermore, the role involves performing extensive outreach to promote educational opportunities and meticulously establishing and maintaining suspense dates to ensure the timely submission of required documentation for all programs.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the foundational qualifications outlined by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the GS-1740 Education Services Series. This requires a bachelor's degree or higher, which must include or be supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in fields relevant to the role. A strong candidate's academic background will demonstrate a solid understanding of key areas such as adult education, educational program administration, curriculum design, guidance and counseling, and career planning. For those pursuing guidance counselor positions, the ideal candidate will have also completed a college or university-sponsored practicum in counseling, ensuring they have both the theoretical knowledge and practical experience to excel.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of education theories, principles, procedures, and practices of secondary, adult, or continuing education programs and their accrediting processes. (See positive education requirement per OPM Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.)
2. Knowledge of a variety of academic, occupational, vocational, and career development resources (educational and/or community).
3. Ability to interpret agencies' directives, instructions, and guidance and make local decisions and recommendations based on analysis.
4. Ability to gather, develop, and analyze a variety of data and to make recommendations based on analysis.
5. Skill in conducting interviews and delivery of formal and informal presentations and briefings.
6. Extensive knowledge of military policies and procedures relating to military testing programs, Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus Program (FLPB), and an understanding of the coding system and verification data applicable to eligibility requirements.
7. Knowledge of the regulations, directives, policies, and procedures regarding the receipt, storage, handling, accountability, and destruction of CONTROLLED TEST MATERIALS.
Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.

May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
Employee may be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
